Outrage! The Onion Posts Vulgar & Crude Tweet About Quvenzhane Wallis

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Everyone else seems afraid to say it, but that Quvenzhané Wallis is kind of a c*nt, right? #Oscars2013,"

The Onion tweet posted on Sunday

Quvenzhane Wallis is a 9-year-old actress who starred in the film "Beasts of the Southern Wild" when she was only five. "Beasts of the Southern Wild" was the most creative, original, lyrical and poetic movie released in 2012. The young thespian deserves praise, admiration and respect for her amazing performance.

The Onion is an American newspaper and Web site featuring satirical articles, nobody does satire or parody quite like The Onion.

There is nothing even vaguely humorous or satirical about The Onion`s tweet. It`s downright crude, vulgar and misogynist, and unforgivable aimed at an innocent child.

After a firestorm of protest The Onion apologized on Monday, but irreparable self-inflicted damage has been done to the satirical publication, and untold suffering has been heaped on a child.

The offensive tweet was published online without a byline; the coward responsible for the nasty comment should come forward and face the music. I am a pop culture critic who takes delight in mocking the likes of Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian and Lindsay Lohan, but I don`t use a pseudonym or publish anything anonymously. If a reader feels that I`ve stepped over the line, he is free to vent by firing an email or sending a letter to the editor.

There has to be accountability for anything written online! The Onion`s apology is self-serving and inadequate, the author of that vile tweet needs to publicly apologize.
