A photograph of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad hugging late Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez`s grieving 80-something mother has Muslim leaders` panties in a twist; they feel Ahmadinejad`s actions were inappropriate.
The photograph taken at Chavez`s funeral in Caracas depicts an emotional Ahmadinejad apparently touching his cheek to Chavez`s mother, while the woman clasps his hand and appears to cry.
Under Islamic rules it isn`t kosher for Muslim men to touch any female outside of their own families. Strapping on a suicide vest bomb and blowing up a bus of Israelis: Perfectly fine.
Accidentally brushing against the cheek of an old lady while consoling her upon the death of her son: An unpardonable sin.
The President of Iran has committed many actions that are inappropriate, to say the least: Threatening to wipe Israel from the face of the Earth, pursuing a nuclear weapons program in face of world disapproval, financing Hamas, Hezbollah and other terrorist groups...
But offering condolence to the grieving mother of Hugo Chavez is not one of them. The fact that Ahmadinejad`s act of compassion has caused a storm of controversy in the Muslim world tells you everything you need to know about the nature of Islam.
