Final Verdict Announced for Bollywood Actor Sanjay Dutt

New Delhi: The Supreme Court, after 20 years on Thursday delivered a final verdict on Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, who was charged with the Mumbai attacks that killed 257 people linked to the 1993 serial blasts. Dutt, 53 has been sentenced to five years in prison by the Court and has already served 18 months in jail. In 2007, Dutt was cleared of conspiracy charges in the Mumbai serial blasts but was found guilty of illegal possession of an AK-56 rifle and a pistol.

While rejected Dutt`s final appeal and ordered him to surrender in four weeks time his lawyer Satish Maneshinde, being sympathetic, said that the term of death sentence came as a shock and they will decide about the future action. We will wait for a copy of the Supreme Court judgment and then decide the further course of action. He is a strong man and will fight back," he said. He further added that Dutt will complete all his film projects that are in pipeline, despite the legal action against him.

After the sentence by the court, in a very emotional distress, Sanjay Dutt said, I am shattered and in emotional distress. I am heartbroken because today along with me, my 3 children and my wife and my family will undergo the punishment."

He also said that he will respect the judiciary and said god is great and he will direct me now. "I know in my heart that I have always been a good human being, respected the system and always been loyal to my country." he said.
