"Justin Bieber has caused outrage after leaving a tasteless comment in the guestbook at the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam.
The 19-year-old singer - who is currently on tour in Europe - visited the famous home where Jewish wartime diarist Frank and her family hid from Nazi persecution for two years during the Holocaust.
After spending an hour touring the home on Saturday, which opened as a museum in 1960, Bieber wrote a message in the guestbook, which read: `Truly inspiring to be able to come here.`
`Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber.`"
Anne Frank`s diary has been a source of inspiration and hope for generations who look to her as a totemic figure who rose above the horrors of Nazism. The most brutal regime in humankind was unable to strip her of her humanity or dim her hopeful vision.
For Justin Bieber to leave such a self-serving message in the guestbook at the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam is such a horrendous error in judgment, that it will take him a lifetime to live it down.
Anne Frank was only 15 when she died, and she might have been a belieber. But Anne`s words will live forever, while Bieber`s pop froth will disappear from the cultural landscape in a few years.
Instead of boasting that Ann Frank would have been a fan, Bieber should try to emulate the honesty, courage and optimistic vision of Frank in his songs and in his life.
Thousands of annual visitors to the Anne Frank museum leave in somber mood, humbled by Frank`s strength of character, Bieber left thinking he`s God`s gift to young girls.
