Saudi Government Destroying Historical Islamic People`s Places

Saudi Government Destroying Historical Islamic People`s Places

By SOP newswire

Avaaz.org has launched a petition to urge on the government of Saudi Arabia to stop its plans of dazing historically and religiously important places and turning them into hotels and other place of public interest. The following message is being sent as an email update to draw attention to the petition in this regard.

It`s shocking the Saudi government is tearing down important Islamic sites to build ritzy hotels and shopping malls. Abu Bakr`s house is now a luxury Hilton, and Lady Khadija`s house was turned into a public toilet! The Prophet`s birthplace is next. But together, we can stop the destruction and save what remains!

Millions of people come to Saudi for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to complete Hajj and visit historical landmarks, but the government is irreversibly destroying these sites and replacing them with expensive hotels and malls for the wealthy. King Abdullah has responded to public opinion by changing other development plans before -- let`s raise a massive outcry to get him to stop this!

Time is running out -- with each day that goes by, more sacred land is bulldozed. Let`s show King Abdullah that we won`t allow the Saudi government to wipe out irreplaceable Islamic history. Sign the urgent petition now and share this with everyone. When we reach 50,000, we will place ads pressuring the King in publications for Hajj pilgrims:

The Saudi government claims the destruction is necessary in order to expand and hold more pilgrims, but experts say expansion can still happen without the destruction of the sites. Many believe that the real reason for the demolishment is because Saudi`s Wahhabis are concerned that people will worship these sites. But for most Muslims, appreciating a historical site is not the same as worshipping and these irreplaceable sites are integral to Islamic history.

A recent development plan indicates that if we don`t stop the destruction now, the prophet`s birthplace will be destroyed very soon.

Time is running out to preserve Islamic history -- 95% of Mecca and Medina`s thousand year old buildings have been demolished in the past two decades, but it is not too late for what remains. Sign the urgent petition now and share this with all your friends:

As a community, we`ve united across the world again and again to achieve justice and preserve what is good. Let`s come together now to protect the world`s heritage in Mecca before these holy sites disappear forever.

With hope and determination,

Dalia, Rewan, Luis, Mais, Bissan, Mohammad, Ricken, and the whole Avaaz team
