Pope Francis Tells Nuns: Don't Be Old Maids
"Pope Francis told a gathering of hundreds of nun leaders from around the world the job of a nun is to be a spiritual mother, not an `old maid.`
The Argentine pontiff, addressing some 800 leaders of female religious orders in Rome for the meeting of the International Union of Superiors General, spoke of the nuns` vow of chastity.
But he said it must be a `fertile` chastity, generating `spiritual children in the church.`"
Pope Francis` humble demeanor and disdain of the pomp and circumstance of his office has been a breath of fresh air.
But if the pontiff wants a legacy that`s more than just symbolic, he must do something historic and concrete like allowing women to be eligible for the priesthood.
If you are familiar with the Gospels and the Apostle Paul`s epistles, as I am, you know that the early female believers weren`t just acolytes; they had leadership roles in the church.
It`s heretical that the Roman Catholic Church doesn`t allow women, even nuns, from being anything other than "old maids."
Pope Francis, it`s imperative that you liberate female Roman Catholics, and allow them to be priests. Women have been "old maids" for too long in the patriarchal Roman church.
