"After singing the National Anthem prior to Game 3 of the NBA Finals in San Antonio, Sebastien De La Cruz was greeted with more criticism than any 11-year-old should ever have to experience. But the hateful and racist remarks did not faze De La Cruz, who returned to perform the anthem again for Game 4 on Thursday and was given a standing ovation by the San Antonio crowd."
After singing the National Anthem prior to Game 3 of the NBA finals Sebastien Del La Cruz was pilloried on social media.
The 11-year-old boy wasn`t criticized for delivering a poor rendition of the notoriously difficult song. By all accounts the kid delivered a virtuoso performance that took everyone`s breath away.
De La Cruz wasn`t blasted for showing disrespect to the flag, or failing to take the honor seriously. The talented boy singer`s love for America is apparent in his demeanor, and evident by his words. The San Antonio native wrote these words on his Twitter account: I am an American living the American dream. This is part of the American life.
The young man was ridiculed, mocked and criticized solely because of his Hispanic heritage. De La Cruz has a budding career as a Mariachi singer, and he wore a Mariachi outfit when he crooned the National Anthem.
All the hate that was poured on De La Cruz backfired; he was invited back for an encore performance for Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
