Scottish Couple Spend Only $1.56 on Their Wedding: Video

By Robert Paul Reyes

"A Scottish couple said they spent only one pound, about $1.56, on their wedding, which involved a volunteer minister and a pot luck reception.

Georgina Porteous, 36, and Sid Innes, 39, of Inverness said the single pound they spent on Porteous` second-hand dress was the only money they spent on their recent wedding, The Mirror reported Wednesday.

The couple said they held the wedding on their property with a volunteer minister and guests were asked to bring food for a picnic reception in the barn behind their home."

"On average, US couples spend $25,656 for their wedding. However, the majority of couples spend between $19,242 and $32,070. This does not include cost for a honeymoon."

The average American couple spends a fortune on their wedding. What a wonderful way to start a new life together, by getting in debt to your eyeballs.

Instead of putting down the 25K as a down payment on a house, or setting the money aside for a rainy day, the bride and groom flushes down the money for their wedding day. Does that make any freaking sense when more than half of marriages end in divorce?

I commend Georgina and Sid for their common sense; I hope that contrary to the odds they will stay married for the rest of their lives.
