Simon The Guide Dog Dies After Saving Boy From Speeding Car: Video

By Robert Paul Reyes

"A beloved guide dog died after he pushed a 4-year-old Atlanta boy away from the path of a moving car that ran a stop sign " seconds after the pooch was struck, the owner said.

Dave Furukawa -- the visually-impaired owner of the brindle boxer, Simon -- said he was walking his son, Will, to school when a red Chrysler ran through the stop sign and hit the pooch as they crossed a street on Monday.

But the brave dog bounced back up in time to push Will out of the way."

The New York Daily News

Newspapers are full of articles about the petty, violent, corrupt and careless behavior of human beings. It`s stories involving animals that lift our spirits, and warm our hearts.

This loyal, brave and caring dog pushed a 4-year-old boy away from the path of a moving car, after he had been struck by the vehicle.

Pilots Dogs, Inc., the organization that gave Simon to Furukawa, said they will give the family another guide dog. Simon was a member of the family, and no other pooch can ever replace him.

Thoughtless persons who do things like run through stop signs seem to be in the majority, but thank goodness for the few good souls like the folks at Pilot Dogs.

Police cited the driver of the Red Chrysler with running a stop sign and failing to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk.

Rest in Peace Simon!

We never know what tragedy lurks right around the corner, hug your children a little bit tighter, and spend a little bit longer time petting your pets.
