'Living Nativity` Scene Depicts Santa Bowing to Baby Jesus

By Robert Paul Reyes

"A living nativity scene which was put on by the Baptist Temple Church in Fall River, Mass., on Sunday didn`t just feature baby Jesus -- jolly St. Nick was there as well.

In the scene, Santa was really getting into the Christmas spirit by bowing to Jesus.

`The true message of Christmas is about Jesus` birth,` said Shirley Johnson, who is married to church pastor Rev. Michael Johnson. `And you know what Christmas has become for many. ... It`s about Santa and the gifts. That`s why we`re showing Santa bowing the knee to baby Jesus. We all need to bow the knee."

I give props to the Baptist Temple Church for including Santa in their nativity scene, and making an important spiritual statement.

Santa is an interloper who doesn`t have anything to do with the real meaning of Christmas, in real life he would kidnap Joseph and Mary and force them to make lead-based toys in the North Pole for slave wages. He might toss the Baby Jesus a cheap toy, but he would never bow down to him.

Santa with his red face, bulbous nose, and huge gut is a perfect symbol for the decadence, debauchery and gluttony that prevail during the Christmas season.

It`s good to know that in a living nativity scene in a Baptist Church, Santa is paying homage to Jesus, and the self-sacrifice, and good will that he represents.
