Fred & Betty Celebrate 50th Anniversary on Christmas
"A Michigan couple who married during World War II are celebrating Christmas as well as their 50th wedding anniversary.
Fred Walters, 90, of Wyandotte, said he will spend his Christmas Day anniversary the same way he spends every day, visiting his wife, Betty Lou, 87, at the Applewood Nursing Center in Woodhaven, where she has lived since suffering a stroke."
Fred doesn`t visit his wife only on special days like Christmas; he visits her every single day of the year, usually spending at least four hours with the love of his life.
Fred is blind as a bat and Betty is afflicted with Alzheimer`s disease, if Fred ended up at a donut shop instead of Betty`s nursing home nobody would be the wiser.
Christmas is the time for hope and optimism; I choose to believe that neither blindness nor dementia can dim the love these lovebirds have for each other.
