Church Displays Bleeding Trayvon Martin Nativity Scene: Video
"Outside the Claremont United Methodist Church is a nativity scene with a bleeding Trayvon Martin. The California Church has turned their nativity scene into a piece of art that comments on our times for the last seven years.
The title of the nativity art is called `A Child is Born, a Son is Given,` the wording outlined in red formed from a pool of blood at Trayvon`s feet."
When we think of art in a church, stained glass windows and religious icons come to mind. It`s not uncommon for art to be controversial and disturbing, and art shouldn`t be confined to museums.
I don`t consider this peculiar nativity scene sacrilegious, but I do think the artist and the church`s pastor are trying too hard to be politically correct.
Instead of aiming at political correctness the artist should have tried to create a more realistic tableau. Had I been the artist I would have depicted three thugs presenting Trayvon with gifts of weed, stolen jewelry and a bag of Skittles.
Trayvon was no martyr, had George Zimmerman not killed him in self-defense his life trajectory would have resembled that of millions of other young black men: Petty crimes, jail, felonies, life in prison or death in the streets.
A more appropriate subject for the nativity scene would have been Christopher Lane, the Australian baseball player gunned down while jogging.
I wonder how long it will be before the race pimps like the Rev. Al Sharpton and the Rev. Jesse Jackson make a pilgrimage to the Claremont Methodist Church?
