Michael Sam First Openly Gay Player to be Drafted Will Change NFL, America! Video!

By Robert Paul Reyes

When a college football player is the eight-to-last man selected in the NFL draft, he`s irrelevant, a footnote, and the answer to a really obscure trivia question.

But when a 7th round draft selection is the first openly gay man to be drafted by an NFL team, he instantly becomes the most famous and the most important football player in the country.

Not every late draft selection receives a congratulatory phone call from the President of the United States, but Sam was congratulated by Obama and well as by celebrities and notables.

Michael Sam has made a stunning debut in the NFL, the hottest selling rookie jersey is Johnny Manziel`s, and the second best-selling is Sam`s. Who would have thunk, that fans would be proud to wear the jersey of an openly gay football player?

Moving forward every word that Sam utters, and every action he takes on and off the football field will be scrutinized, twitted, praised and criticized.

Sam got a taste of life in a fishbowl when outrage ensued after he kissed his boyfriend after learning that he had been drafted by the St. Louis Rams.

When a football player learns that he`s been drafted he instinctively kisses his girlfriend, it`s a heartwarming scene we`ve witnessed hundreds of times.

I guess some folks expected Sam to react to the life-changing news by giving his boyfriend a fist bump, a high-five or a modest peck on the cheek.

We are allowed our personal views on homosexuality, but we must accept gays and lesbians as three-dimensional human beings who have the same emotions, feelings, and hopes and dreams as the rest of us.

Being drafted by a team and making the roster are not the same thing, let`s hope Sam makes the team, he has a lot more to teach America about diversity and tolerance.
