Being Happy in Iran Will Get You Arrested! 'Happy' Dancers Freed! Video!
"Six people who were arrested in Iran for dancing in a YouTube video to Pharrell Williams` song `Happy` have been freed, the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran said Wednesday, citing a source close to the families.
The director of the video was not released, the group said."
Pharrell Williams is a singer-songwriter, rapper, record producer and fashion designer. Pharrell has produced and written hits for many artists, but his hit 2013 single "Happy" propelled him to megastardom worldwide.
Thousands of people all over the world have posted videos on YouTube depicting themselves dancing and lip-syncing to the infectious song.
Six crazy young adults from Iran decided to join in the fun by positing their own " Happy" video on YouTube. They were trying to send the message that even in the Islamic republic of Iran people can have fun.
Within hours of posting the video the Tehran Police Chief ordered the three women and three men arrested for making an "obscene" video.
In the Islamic paradise of Iran men and women aren`t allowed to dance together, and the fact that the women in the videos weren`t wearing head scarves was an insult the religious authorities simply couldn`t ignore.
The young people were wrong, it`s impossible to be free and to enjoy life in a totalitarian theocracy. The Iranian religious authorities aren`t happy unless everyone is glum, depressed and under their collective thumb.
These young Iranians should post another video: Dressed in Islamic garb, reading the Koran, with spiritual frowns on their faces. They can ironically label it " Happy."
