Was Joseph Rudolph Wood's Execution Botched? Hell No, the Animal Died!

By Robert Paul Reyes

"A condemned Arizona inmate gasped and snorted for more than an hour and a half during his execution Wednesday before he died in an episode sure to add to the scrutiny surrounding the death penalty in the U.S.

Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne`s office said Joseph Rudolph Wood was pronounced dead at 3:49 p.m., one hour and 57 minutes after the execution started.

Wood`s lawyers had filed an emergency appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court while the execution was underway, demanding that it be stopped. The appeal said Wood was "gasping and snorting for more than an hour."

CBS News

Many Web sites and newspapers have described Wood`s execution as a " botched execution", I`m sorry but the only botched execution is one where the low-life scum who richly deserves to be put to death survives.

It`s unfortunate that it took so long to put this criminal to death, but we shouldn`t waste our tears on a double murderer. Wood was convicted in the 1989 shooting deaths of Debra Dietz, 29, and Gene Dietz, 55, at an auto repair shop in Tucson.

Dietz pleaded with Wood to spare her life, he responded with an expletive and shot her twice in the chest. We should turn a deaf ear to the cries of condemned killers, they don`t deserve any mercy or sympathy.

We shouldn`t be shedding tears because the lethal injection process took so long to work, we should be shedding tears of outrage that it took 16 long years for this animal to be executed.

Like many prisoners Wood made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ in a bid to curry favor with the public and the judges. Wood looked at the family members as he delivered his final statement, saying he was thankful for Jesus Christ as his Savior. I`m persuaded that Jesus didn`t welcome Wood to heaven, and I`m persuaded that Satan welcomed him to hell.

We shouldn`t throw the baby out with the bathwater, instead of arguing over which combination of drugs is more efficacious in killing a condemned killer, and debating whether or not to ban death by lethal injection, we just bring back the tried and true ways of executing losers: Death by firing squad and death by guillotine.

Is the death penalty a deterrent, probably not when it takes an insanely long time for the criminal`s sentence to be carried out. But I can guarantee that Wood won`t be murdering any more innocent victims.

When a criminal is put to death, it`s not the time to shed tears for the evildoer, it`s time to remember his victims.
