Breaking News: 6.0 Earthquake Jolts San Francisco Bay Area

Centered about nine miles south of wine country`s Napa at 3:20 a.m., the quake was felt as far south as Santa Cruz and into Sonoma County. It was the largest earthquake to strike the Bay Area since the Loma Prieta temblor of 1989, the USGS said."

I survived the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, at the time I lived less than a mile from the collapsed Interstate 880 double decker freeway.

Time has done little to erase the images of death and destruction, it`s a memory I will carry with me to my grave.

I now life in Central Virginia, and I may have to worry about the occasional snowstorm and the infrequent tornado, but earthquakes are not an issue.

If I wake up in the middle of the night with my bed shaking, I know it`s only because Tico, my 24-pound cat jumped on my bed.

But my thoughts and prayers are with the people of the San Francisco Bay Area, thank goodness no deaths or serious injuries have been reported.
