Chinese Dog Meat Festival an Abomination!

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Chinese experts this month sent a letter to the government of Yulin, home of the annual and widely controversial dog meat festival, imploring that the traditional gathering of mass canine consumption be brought to an end, as it can increase the risk of contracting rabies.

In past years, more than 10,000 dogs were estimated to have been slaughtered for the festival, which falls on June 21 every year. Due in part to the barrage of activists and animal-lovers who arrived in Yulin to protest the event this past year, however, it`s believed that only some 2,000 canines were consumed at participating restaurants."

This nation of over a billion souls has gone to the dogs, but it`s encouraging that Chinese are waking up to the fact that it`s unacceptable to eat dog meat.

I urge animal activists and dog lovers from all over the world to converge on Yulin on June 21, 2015, and disrupt this sickening festival.

China simply can`t be welcomed to the community of civilized nations until it eliminates such sickening festivals, and bans serving dog meat in restaurants.

It` tempting to pray that everyone who participates in the dog meat festival gets rabies, but I`d rather they come to their senses.
