Outrage: Employee Suspended for Answering Phone Like a Robot

Office rebellion takes many forms.

Then there is Ronald Dillon, who works on a help line for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

He answered customer-service calls like a robot.

For that, and other acts of insubordination, Mr. Dillon was suspended without pay for 20 days. "

When I call a help line and somebody from a call center in India answers the phone, after about five minutes I`m pulling my hair, punching the wall and reaching for the defibrillator.

I`d cut off my thumb to speak to a person that sounds like a robot, rather than try to make sense out of an Indian speaking English.

Mr. Dillon, 66, has been a freaking civil servant since 1975, he should be granted a dispensation to behave eccentrically.

It`s an outrage that he`s been suspended, without pay, for 20 days. When Dillon retires he should be given a gold watch, and a robot to serve as his butler.
