RIP Big Hank of Sugarhill Gang! Rapper's Delight Will Live Forever! Video!

By Robert Paul Reyes

I said, a hip hop the hippie the hippie
To the hip hip hop, and you don`t stop
The rock it to the bang, bang boogie
Say up jumped the boogie

To the rhythm of the boogie, the beat
Now what you hear is not a test I`m rappin` to the beat
And me, the groove and my friends
Are gonna try to move your feet

"Rapper`s Delight" Sugarhill Gang

Big Hank of the Sugarhill Gang died of cancer Tuesday.

Sugarhill Gang members, Michael (Wonder Mike) Wright, Guy (Master Gee) O`Brien and Henry (Big Hank) Jackson had only one hit, but " Rapper`s Delight " was a devastating masterpiece that you just can`t resist.

The treacherous trio created a template for a gazillion rap hits to follow: Boasting rhymes, dissing fellow MC`s, sampling and giving turntables a heavy workout.

There was nothing organic about the creation of Sugarhill Gang; they were basically a studio group that was quickly assembled to try to cash in on the new art form of rapping.

"Rapper`s Delight " was the first rap single to hit the Billboard Top 40 in 1979, it propelled hip hop from the Big Apple to the top of the charts in almost every country in the world.

Enjoy this classic video featuring Big Hank rocking a violet Kangol hat, as he boogies to the beat! I don`t like what rap has devolved into, but I`m rocking to the beat of Rapper`s Delight.

RIP Big Hank!
