Thanksgiving: A Time to be Thankful!

By Robert Paul Reyes

It`s that time of the year when even cynics like me pause to give thanks for their many blessings. Indeed Americans have a lot to be thankful for:

Freedom of religion, freedom of the press, family and friends, careers, and homes.

I realize that times are tough and many of us don`t have jobs or homes, we should be especially mindful of them this holiday season.

Allow me to list specific things (some trivial, some important) that I`m thankful for this year:

Judyth Piazza, the greatest editor, mentor, writer, and all-around cool person in the world, Big Bang Theory (the sit-com not the cosmological model for the early development of the universe), my mischievous cats and my playful pooch, Rocky Road ice cream, Adele, a rainbow, snow (the kind that coats everything in glistening white, not the kind that buries everything and leaves you stranded in your own home), hamburgers and fries, nap time with my cat Tico, reading a great novel, writing a great (In my humble opinion) essay, Bob Dylan, discovering a treasure on Netflix, cotton candy, a walk with my dog when every person I run into is a beautiful woman, googling myself and finding admiring reviews of my essays, pork (any pork product from bacon to pork skins), the Beatles, receiving a letter ( a real honest-to-goodness letter) from a friend I having heard from in years, a warm cup of coffee, reading a newspaper (the kind that smudges your hands), a cool drink on a hot day, a smile from a stranger, a good night`s sleep, the Rolling Stones, Cheetos, a laughing baby, a shooting star, solving a difficult crossword puzzle, Thelonious Monk, movie popcorn  ...
