Michael Sam Not Good Enough for the NFL, He Was Given Every Chance to Succeed

By Robert Paul Reyes

I have been posting opinion columns online on various Web sites since 1998, and from the very start I advocated for gay and lesbian rights, including same-sex marriage.

I am thrilled that not only is same-sex marriage legal in many states, but most Americans are comfortable with the idea.

I was overjoyed when the St. Louis Rams selected Michael Sam, making him the first openly gay player to be drafted in the macho world of the NFL.

But we must keep in mind that Sam was the 249th pick of the 256-pick draft, and the odds were against him actually making any squad.

Many first round picks fail to make it in the NFL (Tim Tebow, Johnny Football), so it`s hardly surprising that Sam turned out to be a dud.

Sam was given an opportunity to prove himself by the Rams and the Cowboys, and he failed to make either team.

Sam is currently a free agent and there is still a slight chance that he will be picked up by a team next year, but he would be well-advised to make alternate career plans.

Sam should stop insinuating that he was let go because of his sexual orientation, he should man up and shut the hell up.

Dude, being gay wasn`t the reason the Rams and the Cowboys cut you, you just don`t have the skill sets to make it in the NFL.
