White Folks Just Can't Let Go Of 'Safe Black Celeb' Bill Cosby

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Bill Cosby thanked hundreds of fans who turned out for shows in Denver on Saturday as a small gathering of protesters outside the theater denounced the comedian, who has been accused of sexual assault by more than a dozen women in the past three months.

The star of NBC hit 1980s family sitcom "The Cosby Show` denies the allegations, many of which are decades old and fall outside the statute of limitations for criminal or civil cases. His lawyer has called the claims discredited and defamatory. Cosby has never been charged over any of the allegations. He settled a 2005 civil suit alleging sexual misconduct."

This Reuters article is inaccurate; Cosby has been accused of sexual assault by dozens (plural) of women. Only Cosby`s publicists, lawyers and diehard fans have the audacity to dismiss these myriad credible allegations.

Protesters chanted "rape supporters " and "shame on you " at ticket holders as they lined up to get in for the disgraced comic`s shows. These protesters are spot on in their assessment of the audience members; they are enabling, financing and legitimizing a serial rapist.

It`s our moral imperative to heap scorn and ridicule not only on Cosby, but also on anybody who attends his concerts or lectures.

Why would anyone attend a stand-up comedy concert by a man who has been accused of sexual assault by dozens of women? Why are otherwise decent folks supporting a morally-decrepit sex offender?

The vast majority of the audience at the Denver shows was white, Caucasians just can`t let go of a safe  black celebrity. Most black celebs are too "gangsta" for their taste, and in spite of the overwhelming evidence that Cosby is a moral degenerate they still see him as Dr. Cliff Huxtable.

It`s time for all good people (black, white, brown, yellow) to condemn Bill Cosby; he`s a reproach and an affront to the values that we all hold dear.
