Roseanne Barr Says No One in Hollywood Was Surprised About Bill Cosby
"Comedienne Roseanne Barr is speaking out about the sexual assault allegations against Bill Cosby.
In an interview with Access Hollywood, Barr said that she was unsurprised by the allegations and that it took a man - comic Hannibal Buress - to reignite the issue for the media to cover the stories of sexual assault.
`You know, like every woman in Hollywood, there`s hardly any hairdressers or waitresses or working women who don`t know somebody. We`ve all heard it for a long time and it surprises nobody. We all know women who know somebody, if they didn`t go through it themselves with Bill Cosby,` Barr said."
It wasn`t a dirty little secret in Hollywood that Bill Cosby was a serial rapist, folks in the entertainment business, and especially comics, knew that he had a predilection for drugging and raping aspiring actresses.
Celebrities knew Cosby was a predator and I`m sure none of them advised their daughters to seek him out as a mentor, but as far as the general public was concerned Cosby was the embodiment of family values.
But as Roseanne Barr pointed out it took one man - comic Hannibal Buress - making a couple of jokes about Cosby`s penchant for raping women to shame the media to cover the Bill Cosby scandal.
The statute of limitations has expired and the victims will never have the satisfaction of facing Cosby in a court of law, but the least we can do, at this late stage, is to treat them with respect, and listen to their strikingly similar narratives of being drugged and sexually abused by Cosby.
The fact that one man`s off hand off-hand joke about Cosby received more attention than the heartbreaking tales of dozens of victims is an indictment of society; we have a long way to go before there`s equality between the sexes.
