The McStays, Part XXX: CNN`s 'Chasing A Killer' Ties-Up Some Loose-Ends, But Not All of Them!

By John G. Kays

# 9, # 9, # 9...I learned a tremendous amount from CNN`s Special Report: Chasing A Killer (Inside The McStay Family Murders)! Much of this information was new to me, and that`s coming from someone who has spent quite a bit of time researching the McStay Missing Persons` Case, since Mid-February of 2010, when my editor (Judyth Piazza) first brought the story to my attention.

It looks like this new special is mostly the work of CNN correspondent, Randi Kaye, who I would think, is just perfect for this job of tying up some loose-ends, in the aftermath of Chase Merritt`s arrest, which came in November of 2014.

One item I guess I`ll need to mention, is the fact that Randi Kaye herself is part of the McStay Saga, since her groundbreaking interview with Chase back in 2012, can be included as part of the evidence, pointing to Merritt as the killer.

In a sense Randi is both a detective and a journalist; I`ll say nothing more on this hunch I have, other than to urge you to consider my theory, especially in the light of what we just found out about Brian Williams *(yet, Randi Kaye is just the opposite).

Now that I got that out of the way (or did I), I`ll ruminate a little further on what I learned, or on what I think I learned (you never know when you deal with the McStay case, which is sort of like our new: The Matrix).

First off, I`ll have to send out my kudos of praise to Charles Chase Merritt for nearly pulling off a PERFECT CRIME! Not quite though, you cunning Cowboy Welder! You had Joseph conned for the longest of times, but I figure, it was that luncheon at Chick-Fil-A on February 4, 2010, that put a wrench in the works of your scams.

You probably went over to their beautiful, brand new Fallbrook home that very night and killed all four of them, after not liking what Joseph was saying to you at the luncheon. You botched up another welding job on one of the fountains for Earth Inspired Products, and this time Joseph was calling your card on this.

That`s part of the reason why you went over there to murder The McStays - you realized the gig was up! The troubled luncheon was especially of interest to me; this was the defining moment (homicidal visions are conjured!)

Gina Watson, a business associate of Joseph`s (I wasn`t aware of her previously), shed quite a bit of light on this conflicted, tense encounter at Chick-Fil-A; Chase had characterized the luncheon as benign to Randi Kaye (in the famous 2012 interview).

However, Gina had learned earlier from Joseph`s father, Patrick, the lunch meeting was anything but benign! These contradictory accounts pinpoint a moment of chilling truth, as far as I`m concerned. Patrick even said Joseph was looking at hiring a different welder for Earth Inspired Products.

I`m starting to see it clearer now; then from Dan Kavanaugh, the web designer for EIP, we learn he was privy to the ways Chase was hitting up Joseph for money, running into better than $100 K by way of loans, I believe I heard him say!

All kinds of lights are turning on now that I know about Dan and Gina (and Patrick, of course); but now, I`m just learning about Jerry the Gold-Prospector (not his real name), and his harrowing encounter with Chase in the desert. Jerry could have been a victim himself, but had the good sense to get out of Dodge!

Instinctively, he calls the Sheriff, telling them about this spooky incident. They put enough evidence together finally to arrest Mr. Merritt (Jerry`s tale was icing on the poisonous cake). I have many answers now, but that doesn`t mean I don`t still have many questions!

For example, what are the mechanics of Merritt`s cover-up? How many times did he need to return to Fallbrook in order to cover his tracks? Five or six? Did he take the car to San Ysidro that night (2/04/2010)?

The answer is an affirmative, since a neighbor`s surveillance camera captured the Isuzu Trooper pulling out of the driveway, of what we know now as a ghost house (this is due to the copious videos of Joseph and his family playing around in Fallbrook). That was done first? Hum... CM hated Summer McStay (research must be focus on this issue)!
