Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg: Americans Are Ready for Gay Marriage!
"Americans are prepared to accept a U.S. Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said, pointing to what she described as a sweeping change in attitudes toward gays.
The 81-year-old justice discussed the public`s increasing acceptance of gays against the backdrop of resistance by Alabama officials to a federal court order that took effect Monday and made it the 37th gay-marriage state. With the high court set to rule on the issue by June, she said it would not take a large adjustment for Americans should the justices say that gay marriage is a constitutional right."
Hopefully this is a signal that when the Supreme Court reviews marriage-equality cases from four states later this year, it will unambiguously rule in favor of marriage equality as a constitutionally protected right for all Americans.
Justice Ginsburg is spot on, it won`t take a large adjustment for Americans to accept same-sex marriage as a constitutional right. Obama isn`t the only person who has evolved on this issue, even some conservatives realize that the federal government should stay out of our bedrooms, and allow everyone to enjoy the blessings of marriage.
The moon won`t turn red, there won`t be riots in the streets, and the stock market won`t crash when the Supreme Court finally rules that gays and lesbians have a right to marry.
If an 81-year-old Supreme Court justice accepts the inevitability of marriage equality as the law of the nation, younger folks who are on the other side of this issue, should wake up and join the 21st century.
