"KCBS has learned that Saint Mary`s Cathedral, the principal church of the Archdiocese of San Francisco, has installed a watering system to keep the homeless from sleeping in the cathedral`s doorways.
The cathedral, at Geary and Gough, is the home church of the Archbishop. There are four tall side doors, with sheltered alcoves, that attract homeless people at night.
There are no signs warning the homeless about what happens in these doorways, at various times, all through the night. Water pours from a hole in the ceiling, about 30 feet above, drenching the alcove and anyone in it."
Luke 9: 58
And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
The Jesus of the Gospels would have befriended and ministered to the homeless population in San Francisco.
The door of every Christian church could be wide open to people of all races, creeds, and socio-economic backgrounds. It`s a crying shame that Saint Mary`s Cathedral installed a watering system, in the middle of a drought no less, to discourage the homeless from sleeping in the cathedral`s doorways.
After being shamed on social media, and after receiving a formal notice of violation from the city of San Francisco, Saint Mary`s issued a statement saying they would dismantle the system that pours water on entrance areas of the church.
The Catholic Church actually does a lot to minister to the physical and spiritual needs of the homeless in San Francisco, this is just an aberration and the person responsible for the anti-homeless watering system should be punished by the church.
