Madonna: The Sad Spectacle of a Legend Desperately Trying to Look Young

By Robert Paul Reyes

I remember when I first heard "Holiday" back in 1983, I had my car radio set to my favorite soul music station, and I said to myself: This black chick is going to make it big. I was wrong about Madonna`s ethnicity, but I was right about her career taking off like a rocket.

Madonna went on to have a gazillion hits, but "Holiday" remains my favorite. For Throwback Thursday Madonna joined Jimmy Fallon and The Roots to sing her classic hit using a plethora of classroom instruments.

You can turn this world around
And bring back all those happy days
Put your troubles down
It`s time to celebrate
But you can`t turn back the hands of time.

Madonna and I were both young when "Holiday " hit the charts, but now I`m too old to bust a move, and Madonna, legend though she may be, is no longer musically relevant.

Madonna looked absolutely ridiculous in the outfit that she wore for her Jimmy Fallon appearance. Rihanna or Beyoncé would have rocked it, but no 56-year-old woman with a lick of sense would have worn it.

The original recording of "Holiday " was awesome, and the stripped-down classroom rendition was delightful and entertaining, but I feel sad for myself and Madonna when I witness her trying so desperately to appear young.
