"Prince George`s County Public Schools officials are responding to new video that shows a substitute teacher using a belt on students in a classroom.
The grandmother of one of the children in the class told FOX 5 it happened last Friday at Gwynn Park Middle School in Brandywine.
The school district is not providing the teacher`s name. In the video, he has what appears to be a belt in his hand and is hitting students on the floor."
Students usually run roughshod over hapless substitute teachers, but this isn`t your grandpappy`s substitute teacher. This gentleman didn`t put up with any jibba jabba from his young charges; he beat the hell out of them with a belt.
I wouldn`t consider teaching school kids unless I was allowed to wear brass knuckles and carry a baseball bat with me at all times.
Predictably, the teacher has been fired and law enforcement is now involved. In a more just and humane world, the substitute teacher would have been rewarded with a permanent teaching assignment.
If more teachers (and parents) administered corporal punishment there would be fewer Trayvon Martins, Michael Browns, and Freddie Grays in this world.
