"You`ve seen video of drivers attempting to beat trains, now there`s a video of a driver trying to beat a drawbridge.
Multiple cameras on the Flagler Bridge captured a driver, identified as 29-year-old James Montano, jumping the bridge as it was going up. Police say the jump was not the act of a daredevil, but more likely distracted driving."
On TV we`ve seen the General Lee, a souped-up Dodge Charger leap over bridges and ravines, a sports car with more than a little help from special effects can perform miraculous stunts.
But in real life a distracted man driving a clunky SUV was lucky to escape with only minor injuries as he jumped a drawbridge just as it was going up.
His car was a total loss; I doubt he will be bragging about surviving his adventure.
Moral of this story: Don`t tempt fate; keep your mind on the road.
