George Takei Apologizes for Calling Clarence Thomas 'Clown in Blackface'

By Robert Paul Reyes

"George Takei has apologized for calling Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas a `clown in blackface.`

Takei, best known for his role on Star Trek, posted an apology on Facebook Saturday:

My choice of words was regrettable, not because I do not believe Justice Thomas is deeply wrong, but because they were ad hominem and uncivil, and for that I am sorry."

Takei got his panties in a twist over Thomas` blistering dissenting opinion in the high court`s landmark ruling on same-sex marriage.

Thomas is undoubtedly a clown, or perhaps a mime since he never speaks during Supreme Court hearings, but there was no reason for Takei to inject race into the debate. The "clown in blackface" comment was blatantly racist, and offensive in any context.

Instead of dwelling on Thomas` Neanderthal views, Takei and the rest of us who cherish human rights should celebrate that same-sex marriage is now legal in all 50 states.
