New Yorker Magazine's Iconic Cover Featuring Women Raped by Bill Cosby

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Their stories remained a secret for decades, because they feared no one would believe them if they spoke out.

Now, nearly 60 years since Bill Cosby`s first alleged sexual assault, a group of women who say `America`s favorite dad` attacked them have come forward to reveal their harrowing experiences.

The 35 women, ranging in age from their early 20s to 80, have bravely agreed to be pictured for an issue of New Yorker magazine, set to be published on Monday, while revealing the details of their encounter with the disgraced comedian.

The waitresses, actresses, Playboy bunnies, journalists and writers described how they were allegedly drugged, raped or molested by the star."

Even though the New Yorker magazine featuring 35 women who have been sexually assaulted by Bill Cosby on the cover hasn`t hit the newsstands, it`s already achieved iconic status.

Eleven more women who claim they were also sexually assaulted by the disgraced comic declined to be photographed or interviewed by the magazine. There`s an empty chair to represent them, and the dozens of other victims who`ve yet to come forward.

The 35 women were photographed sitting with their hands on their laps as if they have nothing to hide, and staring straight ahead, as if they`re facing the future with a sense of empowerment, proud in having stood up to a serial rapist.

These brave women, who have nothing to gain financially by speaking out, come from diverse backgrounds, but they share strikingly similar accounts of being drugged and raped by Cosby.

A picture is worth a thousand words, and even if most people who see this iconic photograph never read the accompanying article, this striking image has raised awareness about the prevalence of rape in our society.

For years Cosby`s team of lawyers portrayed these women as gold-diggers, liars, and sluts, but looking at the New Yorker cover I see females who could be my sisters, co-workers or spouse.

Cosby`s publicists, lawyers and hacks couldn`t destroy the integrity and spirt of these women, and their testimonies deserve to be read, I beg all of my Facebook friends, and Twitter followers to read the New Yorker article.

I hope and pray that in the near future I will see a New Yorker magazine with a cover photograph of Bill Cosby, with an accompanying article where he finally comes clean, and apologizes for raping so many women.
