First Dog Cafe Opens in California

By Robert Paul Reyes

"A California business is offering guests the opportunity to enjoy cafe-style beverages while interacting with dogs seeking forever homes.

"The Dog Cafe" in Los Angeles touts itself as the first of its kind in the United States to provide the style of pet adoption that has already gained popularity with cats throughout the country and abroad.

`The Dog Cafe offers a comfortable and fun space for humans and dogs to hang out with each other, away from overcrowded shelters, which can provoke fear and aggression in perfectly adoptable pups,` the company`s website states.

What`s good for the goose is good for the gander: Cat cafes are ubiquitous; it`s about time a dog café opened for business.

I have a pooch and two cats, plus another two stray cats that I feed. I don`t need another dog, but I would love to savor a cup of coffee while petting dogs. Spending an hour or two at a dog café may be as close to heaven as I will ever get.

I`m always urging my friends to adopt a pet from an animal shelter, but I`ll be the first to admit that they can be noisy and depressing places. A dog café is the perfect place to look for a canine to adopt.

I hope dog cafes become as popular as cat cafes, there are thousands of pets looking for forever homes.
