A popular octopus has pulled off a great escape from the National Aquarium. Inky the common octopus took advantage of his tank`s lid being left slightly ajar three months ago and fled to the Pacific Ocean. The manager of the Napier aquarium, Rob Yarrall, says Inky`s getaway through a small pipe was no mean feat.

Inky the octopus managed to squeeze his way through a slight opening in his tank while it was undergoing maintenance.
This is inexcusable negligence on the part of the aquarium staff, it`s common knowledge that an octopus can fit through an opening the size of a quarter.
Inky was a favorite with visitors and staff, and he will be sorely missed. Let`s hope that Inky is happy and frolicking (or whatever an octopus does) in the Pacific Ocean.
