Morbidly Obese Cat Addicted to Doritos

By Robert Paul Reyes

"A morbidly obese cat owned by the daughter of a Coronation Street legend has been put on a strict diet after it became overweight by snacking on DORITOS.

Mikey, named after Corrie character Mike Baldwin by the daughter of Johnny Briggs, the actor who played him, tips the scales at 21lbs.

Stephanie Briggs, 33, of Penge, south east London, says the flabby feline doesn`t like having to wait for meals and bites her to wake her if breakfast isn`t on time.

The actress said Mikey will eat just about anything - including breaking open bags of tortilla chips."

Mikey bears a striking resemblance to my tubby, Tico, who tips the scales at 24 pounds, and it scares me that at 21 pounds he is described as morbidly obese.

I prefer to think of Tico as pleasantly plump, and unlike Mikey he doesn`t eat Doritos or any other human food. He dines strictly on dry cat food, although I must confess that I give him a spoonful of tuna every morning.

Mikey`s owner has enrolled his fat kitty cat in the Pet Fit Club, where he will adhere to a strict six month diet and exercise plan.

I don`t have enough disposable income to join a gym; enrolling Tico in a fat farm is out of the question.

Anyway, Tico gets plenty of exercise chasing my other cat and horsing around with my dog.

Whether a feline is owned by the daughter of a celebrity or just an Average Joe, we must look after their health and welfare. Make sure your kitty is seen on a regular basis by a veterinarian.
