Orlando Nightclub Shooting: Today We Are All Gays and Lesbians
"Donald Trump, presumed Republican nominee for President of the United States, was criticized on Sunday for a tweet he sent out in the aftermath of the Orlando, Florida massacre at a gay nightclub.
`Appreciate the congrats for being right on radical Islamic terrorism, I don`t want congrats, I want toughness & vigilance. We must be smart!` Trump wrote on Twitter about the attack, which left 50 dead and stands as the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. The assailant, Omar Mateen, was a U.S. citizen, born to parents from Afghanistan. He was killed by police in the attack."
A leader, and like it or not as the Republican nominee for president of the United States Donald Trump is a leader, tries to comfort and strengthen the resolve of the public in the aftermath of a terrorist attack.
Instead of making common cause with the victims of the gay Orlando nightclub shooting, their friends and family, and the American public, and seeking to comfort us, Trump used the senseless slaughter of innocents to bolster his image as a tough guy against Islamic radicals.
Only a narcissist would pat himself on the back in the aftermath of the murder of so many innocent civilians.
This was an outrage against our lesbian and gay brothers and sisters in particular, and against Americans in general, perpetrated by an Islamic fascist who hated our democracy, inclusivity and freedom.
Today we are all lesbians and gays, and all of us, Republicans, Democrats and Independents, must continue to fight terrorism by celebrating our freedom and democracy.
We must defeat terrorism by flying the rainbow flag, going to a nightclub, attending a house of worship that celebrates the brotherhood of man, and by simply being a good and decent person.
In the end good will always triumph against evil.
