Dallas Police Shootings: Time to Mourn Officers and Celebrate Their Lives

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Former Illinois Congressman turned conservative radio host Joe Walsh went on a twitter rant following the deadly sniper attack on Dallas police officers Thursday, including a now-deleted message that read: This is now war. Watch out Obama.

Walsh, a Republican who represented Illinois` 8th district from 2011 to 2013 before becoming a syndicated radio host, delivered a series of tweets that criticized President Barack Obama and suggested that the president was a `cop hater no different from `the thugs on the street.`

In another tweet, Walsh suggested that the president`s rhetoric about recent police shootings of unarmed African American men might have led to the sniper attack, which killed four Dallas officers and injured seven others and one civilian.

Five police officers were killed and seven others were injured in the ambush in Dallas last night, the deadliest single incident for law enforcement since September 11, 2001. Two civilians also were injured.

The gunman who died after a standoff with Dallas police said he wanted to kill white people -- especially white officers -- and that he was upset about the recent police shootings.

In the immediate aftermath of such a horrific massacre, that has the potential to rip this country apart along racial lines, it`s incumbent upon leaders to speak words of comfort and healing.

Illinois Congressman and current radio talk show host Joe Walsh instead chose to politicize the tragedy, and at the same time build his brand, by going on a Twitter rant against President Obama.

There will come a time for casting blame and for debating the circumstances that lead to this tragedy, but now is the time for mourning the slain police officers and celebrating their lives.
