Great News: Pistons Return To Their Hometown

Great News: Pistons Return To Their Hometown

By Tameka Bankhead

I can recall interviewing a former Piston, Isaiah Thomas on the hills of major championship wins and could not have foreseen what is in now store for our home team, the Detroit Pistons.

It is truly an exciting time for the city of Detroit. With construction underway, the famed Detroit Pistons Basketball Team known for, once upon a time housing championship winners like Isaiah Thomas, and Joe Dumars, is being relocated away from the Palace of Auburn Hills, to a newly built stadium exclusively for the team, near the Fox Theatre in Downtown Detroit.

During the old Chuck Daly coaching days, with hopes of three-peats and back to back championships in our hearts, Detroit fans were full of pride and hope after back to back wins and once upon a time hoped for nationwide dominance of the league.

The Chicago Bulls (Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippens) as their top opponents at the time, went on to win, but the Detroit Pistons as the team that kept on giving, didn`t stop.

Joe Dumars later built a recreation center for disadvantaged youths right within the city of Detroit, located by the famed Eight Mile Road on Woodward Avenue. And Isaiah Thomas went on to become the head coach of the Houston, Rockets.

The Detroit Pistons kept a pretty low profile until a win several years ago in 2005. Since then, their profile was kept pretty low. And now they return from the metropolitan area to win once more, to the delight of their fans, where they are hoped to return the passion of winning to their hometown Detroit`s residents and fan base.
