Welcome Darren LaMontagne

Welcome Darren LaMontagne

By Askin Ozcan (Mentor)

I enjoyed your introductory article and poem at the SOP. Congratulations both to you and the SOP for your joining this unique media. Apart from being your "landsman," I am also a new author, though a "seasoned" journalist, having written here and there, both as a hobby and as a professional. Now, in my retired days, it is indeed a unique joy for me to contribute to the SOP occasionally and meet its leaders and writers, although only through the Internet.

Believe me, before I click on NY Times or another world-famous media, I read everyday a few Internet papers which give me different news and insights into the world which I don`t find in the world-famous media and the SOP is one of them. Its very knowledgable leaders and writers are truly fascinating people to work with and the feeling I get, being a member of this intelligent and lively and creative crowd, is second to none.

I shall read your book "The Pearly Gate." You can have a look at my books as well and let me know what you think of them : SMALL MIRACLES, THE SECOND VENICE, WISDOM IN SMILE, STOCKHOLM STORIES and LIGHTNING AND A BOUQUET OF ROSES.

They are in different genres varying from religion/inspirational to humor and memoirs and poetry, so there is something to suit to the different mood one is in.

There are 13.5 million books in English, on Amazon.com alone. Media decides who will read what-- not the quality of the literature, like in the good old days...As you know, I am sure, as a fellow Canadian, Prof Marshall Mc Luhan`s famous book, "MEDIUM IS THE MASSAGE" (not the "message" as most readers thought!) gave signals for this unfortune some fifty years ago. They say, "Now is the time of TV, Internet and film!" But, what about  the "Human Being"?  The urge and the culture of "writing" is deeply imbedded in us. We don`t seem to let go of "writing" as easily as the technology wants us.

In despite of all its disadvantages, literature is still one of our strongest fortresses.

Welcome again to you.

Best regards and wishes for success !
