Judyth Piazza chats with Kenny Molzahn, Historical Fish Wrap

By Judyth Piazza CEO (Editor)

Historical FishwrapTM is a partnership of two high school social studies teachers from Northeastern Wisconsin. Both teachers used newspapers in their classrooms to bring history "to Life" using thousands of newspapers from the mid-18th to the 20th centuries. "We taught next to each other, on a local Indian Reservation, and observed the student absentee ratios drop dramatically when it was "Paper Day," Ken Molzahn, now the full-time Director of Sales and Marketing, stated, "The students reactions and behavior were our compass and guidance to begin our company." On April Fools Day, 2007 we took the plunge and began our personal adventure into entrepreneurial capitalism. "Our goal is to use our archive of newspapers to create, first and foremost , 16-page full-size themed reproduction newspapers." Molzahn continued, "From there we are simply `mining the data`."

With less then a year `under their belts` these two enterprising instructors have created an impressive array of merchandise that includes: Photographic Paper Posters of hundreds of the most memorable front-pages [and other pages of interest] from the last one hundred and fifty years, our Original Color Poster designs, utilizing a dramatic newspaper headline, an era photograph or map and an artifact, e.g., a plane, a tank or famous individual have been very successful, other items include high quality100% cotton T-shirts and Polo Shirts, Coffee Mugs, Director Chairs, and Baseball Hats.

"Our first year of business has been exciting with numerous roller-coaster twists and turns, yet our products have made an impact in the marketplace." Molzahn stated proudly, "With Ingram Periodicals, Inc, the largest periodical distributor on the planet, signing us to a 4 year contract for 24 papers. We believe we are generating some name recognition and , hopefully, excitement." HF products have been placed in the 140 Hastings Book Store chain,, and around Green Bay at The School House, Barnes and Noble, and Bosses News and Tobacco Newsstand.
