Airbus set to break 2005 record number of announcements

By SOP newswire

The air show in Paris opened with an extraordinary series of announcements by Airbus. As one press conference followed another throughout the day, the total number of aircraft orders and commitments continued to climb. By the end of afternoon, John Leahy, Airbus COO ? Customers announced a total of 339 orders for Airbus aircraft, representing a global value of 45.7 billion dollars US at catalogue prices.

These announcements include 219 firm purchase agreements and 120 Memorandum of Understanding. In answer to a question at the GECAS press conference, John Leahy said he expected to exceed by far its previous record of Le Bourget 2005.

By Monday night, this prediction seemed likely to come true and Airbus is set to mark another record with important orders for the new A350 XWB from Qatar Airways, US Airways and ALAFCO, and repeat orders for the A380 from Qatar, Emirates and Air France.

As for the A320 Family, it continues its successful career as the best and fastest seller of the entire history of aviation with a grand total of more than 180 orders and commitments and 1600 orders in the past two years.

And this is only the first day of the show?
