Girl Finds $1000 In a Used Richard Simmons Videotape

By Robert Paul Reyes

"The best bargain at the Salvation Army thrift store in Kailua-Kona was a Richard Simmons videotape. But Mikela Mercier, 11, decided to pass up the chance to buy the tape for a few coins after she found a surprise inside: $1,000 in $100 bills.

Mikela said that when she discovered the money while browsing through the used tapes, she immediately looked for her mom who was inside the dressing room and told her they needed to turn it in."

The Associated Press

The video store I frequent has a bin of used VHS tapes for $1 a pop, and the same tapes have been there for months. It`s a miracle that stash of $100 bills was found, only a bored little girl would browse through a bin of VHS tapes. And only a slightly twisted child would carefully examine a Richard Simmons videotape.

Mikela`s mother should commend her daughter for her honesty, and find her a good psychiatrist.

If I bought a Richard Simmons tape at a Blockbuster and found loot inside, I would don some super short shorts and shave my legs before I would return the money. But considering the girl found the wad of cash at a Salvation Army store, she did the right thing.

In an astonishing example of synchronicity my friend Olga just sent me an IM saying that her coworker dressed up as Richard Simmons for Halloween and won a contest. Who would have thunk that Richard Simmons could bring so much good luck?
