Library Finally Gets A Restroom

By Robert Paul Reyes

"When you gotta go, you gotta go. But for decades, when you had to go in the Roxbury Free Library, you really had to go - somewhere else, that is.

The one-room clapboard building, a beloved small-town gathering place since 1923, had no restrooms. When nature called, patrons young and old either had to hold it, do their business next door at the Roxbury Union Congregational Church or go home.

No more: Construction is under way on a small addition that includes a 6-by-8-foot restroom with a sink and toilet. The toilet was installed Nov. 14."

The Associated Press

A crappy little one-room clapboard building library without a toilet? I`m relieved that this intolerable situation has finally been remedied, we`re not a third world country after all.

As someone who has no use for organized religion, I would have felt uncomfortable going to a church to do my business. I would have felt a tinge of guilt knowing that the only time I darkened the door of a house of worship was to take care of such unpleasant business.

But at least the library has had wireless Internet access for years. In fact given a choice between a restroom or wireless access, I`d opt for the wireless connection.

The patrons of the Roxbury Free Library will do more smiling and less squirming this holiday season. I hope they enjoy the brand new addition to their quaint little library.
