Woman Breaks Her Foot-Long Nails In Car Crash

Woman Breaks Her Foot-Long Nails In Car Crash

By Robert Paul Reyes

"A Utah woman listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for her long fingernails has lost them in a car crash. Lee Redmond of Salt Lake City sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the accident Tuesday.

Redmond`s nails, which hadn`t been cut since 1979, were broken in the crash. According to the Guinness Web site, her nails measured a total of more than 28 feet long in 2008, with the longest nail on her right thumb at 2 feet, 11 inches." The Associated Press (AP)

Forgive me for stating the obvious but most people are average, and regular folks don`t make the news, grace the covers of magazines or appear on TV.

You have to be exceptionally attractive, intellectually gifted or possess an inordinate amount of talent to become famous. Contrary to common belief every American is not allotted 15 minutes of fame, the vast majority of us live and die without making any impact on society.

But almost everyone years for fame, and if some desperate souls aren`t blessed with intelligence, talent or beauty, they are still determined to become famous by any means necessary. That`s why there`s never a shortage of fools who would sell their souls to humiliate themselves in a reality show.

Others like this pathetic woman achieve fame by setting a ridiculous record. If your finger nails measure a total more than than 28 feet long there are certain things you can`t do very well: Type, clean your backside, play tennis, give a massage, apply makeup, conduct an orchestra, shake hands, comb her hair or drive. This foolish woman should never have been allowed to drive, she`s a hazard to herself and to those unlucky enough to share the road with her. The AP article mentions that she was ejected from her car, probably because she was unable to fasten her seatbelt.

Now that her claim to fame is gone, hopefully this will be the last time she makes the news.
