Thieves Stimulate Economy: Steal Lady's Credit Cards, Go On Shopping Spree

By Robert Paul Reyes

"How do you make relish? That`s the question police said thieves used to distract an elderly woman in a Wal-Mart store as they stole her purse. Now they`re looking for the three suspects after hundreds of dollars in charges were made to the 79-year-old woman`s credit cards for beer, cigarettes and gift cards.

Police said the three men approached the woman in a store aisle on Tuesday and asked if she knew how to make relish. As she pointed out the ingredients on shelves, one suspect snatched her purse." The Associated Press

How do you make relish? That`s the type of question that will stump anyone, not just a possibly senile 79-year-old woman. If a pickpocket asked me that question, I would be so perplexed that he could steal my wristwatch, wallet, cell phone and eyeglasses before I came to my senses again.

Elderly folks rarely use their credit cards, they prefer to pay in cash or with checks. How many times have you waited in line at the grocery store behind an old hag who waits until the cashier has scanned her last item before she begins to search for her checkbook in her purse? Six minutes later she pulls out her checkbook, and it takes her another two minutes to fill out her check.

This may sound cruel but it`s good for the economy that her credit cards were stolen. The thieves are busy stimulating the weak economy buying beer, cigarettes and gift cards. I betcha that old lady uses her credit cards once in a blue moon to buy Metamucil or Cod Liver Oil.

I hope the thieves get caught, but not before they`ve had an opportunity to stimulate the economy.
