Surfing Facebook While Sick Costs Lady Job

Surfing Facebook While Sick Costs Lady Job

By Robert Paul Reyes

"A Swiss insurance worker lost her job after surfing popular social network site Facebook while off sick, her employer said Friday.

The woman said she could not work in front of a computer as she needed to lie in the dark but was then seen to be active on Facebook, which insurer Nationale Suisse said in a statement had destroyed its trust in the employee.

`This abuse of trust, rather than the activity on Facebook, led to the ending of the work contract,` it said." Reuters

Ever red-blooded American worker should take at least a couple of mental health days every year. I remember one day I called in sick with the flu -- I had a great time at the ballpark catching some rays, drinking beer and rooting for the San Francisco Giants. The next day when I returned to work with a deep tan, my supervisor looked like he wanted to choke me.

This Swiss Miss needed a day off to facebook with her pals, and get some rest. Unfortunately, her nosy boss noticed that she was active on the social networking site, and he fired her since she claimed that she was too sick to work in front of a computer.

This poor lady`s supervisor is too strict, most employees check their Facebook, MySpace and Twitter accounts while sending Instant Messages to all their friends.

The Swiss boss needs to get with the program, it`s impossible to stop employees from surfing the Web at work. If employees are prohibited from using their work computers to check social networking sites, no problem they will simply use their iPhone or Crackberry.

The Swiss Miss is probably commensurate with all her Facebook friends about getting fired.
