Prudes' Panties In Twist Over Nude Sculpture At Shopping Center

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Parents in Florida are complaining about a sculpture of a nude family outside a shopping center west of Delray Beach. Parents of children who attend a nearby elementary school say the bronze statue is inappropriate, and the PTA president e-mailed parents Wednesday asking them to complain.

The sculpture is by artist Itzik Asher and titled `Journey to the New.` It is supposed to represent the journey of Russian and Ethiopian Jews from their homes to Israel. It was previously displayed at other locations in the area." The Associated Press

Works of art shouldn`t be confined to museums, they should be displayed in shopping malls, parks and public buildings where everyone can enjoy them. It`s fabulous that Asher`s statue is outside a shopping center, where it will be appreciated by people from all walks of life.

Instead of getting into a tizzy over a work of art depicting a nude family, parents should be thanking the artist for allowing his work to be displayed in a public place.

The PTA president should be emailing the parents asking them to take their children to see this great work of art. Parents can use this as a teachable moment to instruct their children that there is nothing dirty or sinful about the nude form in a work of art.
