Old Codger Lugging Oxygen Tank Robs Bank

By Robert Paul Reyes

"A nattily-attired elderly male robber carrying an inhaler or an oxygen tank presented a demand note to a teller at a La Jolla bank today and fled on foot with an unknown amount of cash, police said.

The heist was reported at 10:12 a.m. at the San Diego National Bank in the 7800 block of Ivanhoe Ave., according to San Diego police Sgt. Ray Battrick. It was unclear whether the suspect had a weapon, the sergeant said." Read more:

If a 70-year-old man, lugging an oxygen tank, demanded my money, I wouldn`t give him a dime even if he was brandishing a machine gun.

I would unplug his oxygen tank, and send him off with a swift kick to his butt. The teller who gave this old dude cash should be fired for cowardice, the old codger didn`t even display a weapon.

He may have cut an imposing figure at 6-feet-six-inches tall, but come on now he`s older than dirt.

The old dude fled on foot, even if the cops arrived an hour later they should have been able to catch up with him. How fast can you run when you are 70-years-old and carrying an oxygen tank? I`m sure he stopped every few seconds to catch his breath, and to check if his Depends needed changing.
