Fred Fedler earned his bachelor`s degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, his master`s degree from the University of Kentucky, and his doctorate from the University of Minnesota. He has worked as a reporter and copy editor for three newspapers in Iowa and California. Since joining UCF`s faculty in 1971, Fedler has served two terms as the School of Communication`s graduate coordinator and "for about 15 years " also served as head of the school`s Journalism Division. Fedler has written four books, including one about media hoaxes and a textbook about the lives and work of early reporters and editors.

Fedler`s first textbook, "Reporting For The Media," is in its eighth edition, with more than 300,000 copies in print. Since 1973, the book has been used at hundreds of colleges and universities across the United States. Fedler frequently serves on national committees and task forces, especially for the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, and for 10 years served as Reviews Editor of one of AEJMC`s national publications, Journalism & Mass Communication Educator. In addition to his four books, Fedler has presented more than 50 convention papers and published 60 articles. At UCF, he`s received half-dozen awards for excellence in teaching.

Now in his 60s, Fedler takes off every summer to write and travel, and enjoys playing (and occasionally winning) at tennis, chess, golf, poker, and bridge. Or, you may see him swimming at Bally`s or riding his bike in Oviedo.
