University of Advancing Technology and The NSA
Two students from the University of Advancing Technology (UAT) have been selected by the National Security Agency (NSA) for full scholarships under UAT`s Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) designation. This scholarship is awarded only to those students who have demonstrated exemplary academic performance in information assurance programs at universities designated as CAE by the NSA. This scholarship provides recipients with full tuition, an annual 12k stipend and guaranteed job placement within the Department of Defense (DOD) after graduation.
The NSA Center of Excellence in Information Assurance Education program is an initiative designed to defend information infrastructure vulnerabilities nationwide. To accomplish this, the NSA and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) collaborated to promote training and education programs to produce cyberspace-protecting and knowledgeable professionals. Four-year colleges and graduate-level universities are eligible to apply for the certification.
The application process for certification by the NSA and DHS is extremely rigorous. Institutions vying for this coveted certification must first submit documentation and coursework that illustrates an information security curriculum designed to the strict academic standards set forth by the Department of Defense (DOD) and the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS).
UAT`s courseware in information assurance has been certified as mapping 100% to the CNSS national standard. In fact UAT`s recent mandatory courseware recertification included two new submissions that also received CNSS certification. The DOD reviewer had this to say about UAT`s submission:
Excellent coursework was provided to support the justification and mapping to the required CNSS standards. The institution did an exceptional job in documenting the relevant lecture(s) to correspond with the desired criteria. They provided succinct and directed justification statements with the corresponding topics which helped in expediting the review process. The detailed syllabus, including a list of major topics, textbooks, references, discussion topics or assignments, helped provide the reviewer with an understanding of the intensive nature of the course content. Both of these courses were well documented, provided very good course content and overall were very well done. Congratulations are extended to the institution for a job well done.
The NSA certification along with the scholarship awards, further illustrates UAT`s commitment to advancing technology especially in information assurance. More importantly, it reinforces UAT`s commitment to providing the very best educational and professional opportunities to its student body.
