Sound Machine Earns Invitation to Battle of the Bands

Durham, N.C.- N.C. Central University’s band will be participating in the 2007 Honda Battle of the Bands Invitational Showcase in Atlanta, Georgia at the Georgia Dome. They will be performing along with 10 Historically Black College and University (HBCU) marching bands. They were nominated from a field of 40 participating HBCUs.

The lineup of bands set to “raise the roof” off the Dome are:

North Carolina Central University

Virginia State University

Bethune-Cookman College

Norfolk State University

Clark-Atlanta University

Albany State University

Prairie View A&M University

Alabama State University

Langston University

Central State University

The bands are preparing to march on the Dome with all new routines, riveting choreography and contemporary R&B, funk, Hip-hop, classical and jazz song stylings.

The event is sponsored by the American Honda Motor Co. I t will be awarding $141,000 in grants to the HBCU bands. Also, the institutions performing will receive a $10,000 grant to support their music programs.

“American Honda is pleased to continue its proud association with Historically Black Colleges and Universities and their students through the program, and our college-based initiatives,” said Barbara Ponce, manger of Emerging Markets National Advertising for Honda.

Tickets to the Honda Battle of the Bands are $10 for reserved seating and can be purchased at Ticketmaster or via the Georgia Dome box office.
